Mark Buxton
Born in England, Mark Buxton's fascination with fragrance began while growing up near Hamburg. Over 20 years ago, he fell in love with Paris, a city that would later become the epicenter of his career as a perfumer. Buxton has many passions, including a love of wine, culinary arts, and antiques, particularly pieces with an Art Deco feel.
A chance encounter on a German game show, where the 21-year-old Buxton and a friend attempted to identify 600 perfumes in a blind test, led to representatives from Haarmann & Reimer (now Symrise) offering him a place in their prestigious training program in Paris. This stroke of luck marked the beginning of his extraordinary journey in the world of fine fragrance creation.
With over 25 years of experience, Mark Buxton has collaborated with leading international perfume houses and designed fragrances for some of the most luxurious brands, including Givenchy , Versace , Van Cleef & Arpels, Paco Rabanne , Lagerfeld, Burberry , Cartier, Chopard, and Ferré. His bold signature was first discovered when he created the very first Comme des Garçons fragrance. He quickly gained recognition in the world of Haute Parfumerie and has since participated in a variety of artistic projects.
Buxton's extensive portfolio includes collaborations with brands like Oddity, biehl parfumkunstwerke, Brooklyn Soap Company, Cale Fragranze d'Autore, Le Labo, and WienerBlut. Some of his most popular creations include Paco Rabanne Black XS for Her, Salvador Dali Laguna, Comme des Garçons Comme des Garçons 2, and Kajal Lamar.
Mark Buxton's approach to perfumery is characterized by his eclectic style, which blends traditional British sensibilities with contemporary dandyism, rock, and idiosyncratic energy. His unconventional yet wearable creations defy the codes of luxury with bravado and audacity. Buxton's pursuit of absolute simplicity is reflected in his flawless precision and concise olfactory formulas.
His work with Comme des Garçons, particularly the creation of the original fragrance and CDG 2, exemplifies Buxton's distinctive signature and has established the fashion house as a niche fragrance brand. His signature can also be found in high-end perfumery, from the ultra-luxurious House of Sillage collection to Le Labo's intoxicating Vetiver 46.
In 2010, Mark Buxton decided to invest in new creative projects and became one of the investors in Nose, a Parisian boutique dedicated to niche fragrances. Through his eponymous brand, Mark Buxton Perfumes, he strives to freely express and share his creative universe. The brand embodies a refined world of stunning modernity and launched its first collection of scented candles in 2019.
Mark Buxton's life and career in perfumery have been defined by his innovative spirit, passion for creativity, and unique approach to fragrance creation. His collaborations with leading perfume houses and luxury brands have cemented his reputation as an exceptional talent in perfumery. Through Mark Buxton Perfumes, he continues to share his distinctive vision with the world, captivating the senses of all who experience his masterful creations.
